TONE UP: Doggy position is great for the glutes
The countdown to Christmas has begun, which means that many of us will be looking to tone up in time for party season.
Trekking down to the gym on a cold winter’s morning doesn’t sound very appealing, but exercise doesn’t have to be a chore.
You can actually burn fat by getting physical in the bedroom, with men shedding 200 calories per hour - the equivalent of a 60 minute yoga class.
And an hour-long session between the sheets can see women drop 138 calories, which is around the same as 30 minutes of cycling.
So what better excuse to rope your partner into some sexercise?
With help of Lovehoney’s sex and relationship expert Annabelle Knight, we reveal the top tips and best positions for losing weight…

1. Missionary
Missionary is a firm favourite for many couples. While it may seem like a pretty basic position, there are plenty of physical benefits to choosing this one.
Annabelle revealed: “She can work her core (stomach muscles) by focusing on pelvic lifting using her abs rather than her lower back.
“Missionary can also provide a good butt work-out for both sexes.
“The more you both do buttock squeezes, the firmer they will be.”
2. Doggy
This position is great for toning the glutes and building upper body strength. And Annabelle has a tip for women looking to burn even more during the romp.
She recommends: “She can up the calorie burn further by, rather than having her hands flat on the bed, she presses her hands against the wall in front of her and uses her upper body to help thrust - this also exercises the shoulders and upper body.”
3. Girl on top 
To maximise the calorie-burning potential of this position, it helps to be more enthusiastic with your squatting and flexing.
Annabelle said: “The woman needs to try to imagine they are riding a horse - they need to flex their lower abs and pelvis muscles in the same way to maximise the work-out potential of this position.
“She can make this even more intense by coming up on to her feet and squatting over him.
“That’s the buttocks, legs and hips all working at the same time.”

4. Standing
You need a lot of strength to maintain this position for a long period of time - especially if you’re the man of the relationship.
Sexpert Annabelle describes it as “the ultimate work-out position”.
She advises: “If you are facing each other, it is a great way to exercise abs, quads and the thighs at the same time.
“If she wraps her legs around her partner, she will also need good arm strength to hold on.”
5. The Bridge
If you’re looking to tone up your bingo wings and bum, this could be the position for you.
Annabelle suggests: “She is on all fours facing him - using all four limbs to hold her body weight off the bed,
“It is a great way for her to work-out the arms, buttocks and inner thighs.
“He is working his quads by lifting her at the buttocks while he thrusts.”
